Visiting a Justice of the Peace
New Zealand is served by a community of volunteer JP’s.
These Justices make their time available for free at home, in hospitals and care homes, and at public service desks.
When visiting a JP, it is important to remember:
- Bring your ID and the ID of anyone else signing documents with you. This ID should be current and government-issued.
- Make an appointment ahead of time or visit a public service desk. Not all justices are available at short notice.
- Bring the original documents and the copies with you if you wish to get the copy certified.
- Ensure that the document you are completing can be completed by an NZ JP as some can not.
- Do not sign documents that need to be countersigned or witnessed by a JP before your visit.
